Fingernail CareSo how should one take care of their fingernails?
let's see..

Nail care is important as your nail is a reflection of how well groomed and clean you are.
- Nail Care - FAQ
Is there any correlation between nail color and one's health?
□ Yes, nail colour can indicate some health conditions. People suffering from circulation problems often will have nail beds of a blue or purple color. If your nails suddenly seem to be more brittle, it could be a hint that you are not taking care of your health.
How often should I manicure my nails?
□ Experts recommend once a week to every 10 days is good for simple maintenance. But, if you maintain your nails well, it can last for a longer time.
Should I be buffing my nails?
□ No, it is not necessary and takes away the layers that give the nail its strength. If you must buff the nail, do so only once or twice a year using a natural buffer. Buff in the direction the nails grow, NOT side to side, to avoid splitting
What can I do for nails that keep peeling or splitting?
□ This may be a dehydration problem. Use an oil designed to penetrate the nail plate then follow up with a moisturizing cream. Nail conditions may improve with greater water consumption.
□ Nail polish removers also have a dehydrating effect.
□ Solutions:
° Avoid removing your nail polish too frequently
° You can use a colourless polish or a base-coat or a top-coat, then you can keep touching
it up, withour having to use the remover frequently.
° Regular massage around the nail-base with cream can have a good effect on brittle nails
How fast do nails grow?
□ This varies from person to person and even between individual fingers of the same hand. Nails grow between 0.05-1.2mm per week, taking approximately 7 months to grow out completely. Fingernails grow faster than toenails.
□ Nail growth increases in summer time or warmer climates and decreases in colder climates or during illness.
What do white dots on my nails mean?
□ Dryness, trauma (bumps and bangs) to the nail and certain medications can also cause this, as a zinc deficiency.
What is nail cuticle?
□ Nail cuticle is the whitish area at the base of the nail plate.
□ It prevents baterica from entering our body by sealing the space between the nail's root and the skin.
How to manage nail cuticle?
□ Some cuticle can be hard and dry and sticking up - slightly trimming is fine, but NEVER remove the whole thing.
□ Strong cuticle growth can be controlled with a cuticle softener or cuticle- removing liquid
□ Try to leave cuticle alone if possible because removing it would leave the newly forming nail vulnerable to infection.
□ Instead of cutting the cuticle, push it back gently with a rubber-tipped stick or rubber-tipped cuticle-pusher.
Why is my nail surface uneven?
□ Likely reason is the lack of vitamins and protein. Hence, it is important that we eat well. One solution is to buff the nails once in a while.
